OPP Investigate Weapons Incident Schools Put on Hold and Secure - Suspect Arrested and Charged

(ORILLIA, ON) - On June 07, 2018 at approximately 12:44 P.M. the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Matchedash Street North in the City of Orillia with reports of people fighting and someone with an edged weapon.
Officers attended the scene and observed two males and a female with minor injuries. All three persons refused medical attention. The suspect had left the area prior to police arrival. As a precautionary measure the schools in the area were put on a hold and secure. Central Region Canine and Emergency Response Team were called in to assist in locating the suspect. The hold and secure was lifted a short while later without incident at any of the schools.
Police believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety. The investigation into this incident is continuing. If anyone witnessed this or has information regarding the circumstances they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
As a result of the investigation police have identified the suspect as 31 year old Momokai MASSAQUOI from Toronto Ontario. On June 09, 2018 the accused was arrested, in Scarborough, by Toronto Police Service. He was then transported to Orillia and held for a bail hearing. The accused was charged with two counts of Assault with a Weapon and one count of Breach of Recognizance.
The accused was held in custody he is set to appear next on June 13, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
