(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) - A vehicle stopped for speeding resulted in the driver being arrested for an alcohol related offence.

On July 13, 2018, at approximately 1:15a.m., an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling on Highway 35 near River Road when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and an investigation ensued.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Melissa Ferrier, 28 years of age, of Lindsay, was arrested and charged with the offence of driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. The vehicle was towed from the scene. The accused was also charged with speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on August 16, 2018.
