(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with over 240 incidents this past week, these are some examples:

July 16:

Just after noon hour an officer measured a black sedan travelling 165 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone eastbound on Highway 401 in Port Hope ON. The officer observed four occupants inside the motor vehicle including two young children. As a result of the investigation the 27 year old male driver from Cavan Ontario was charged with stunt driving and received a 7 day licence suspension. The 25 year old female passenger from Brampton Ontario who was found to be the owner was charged with permit operation of motor vehicle with no insurance. The motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.


Officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress in the Municipality of Trent Hills ON. As a result of the investigation a 36 year old male from the Campbellford area was arrested and charged with assault and mischief. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in August 2018.


Between July 13 and July 15, 2018 a red 2007 Kymco ATV was reported stolen from an address on County Road 31 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township near Lakeport ON. The ATV was reported to have a plow attached to the front and a wood splitter attached to the rear. Investigation continuing.*


A resident of Brighton ON, reported that the Ontario licence plate CEDE 064 that was attached to the rear of her motor vehicle was stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle was parked in her driveway on Division Street South.*


July 17:

A male reported that his vehicle that was parked at his residence on Purdy Road in Cramahe Township was broken into sometime overnight. The passenger side window was smashed allowing access to contents within his vehicle. Reported stolen were various items including a wallet containing several pieces of identification and a sum of cash. Racing gear and a helmet were also reported to have been taken from the vehicle. Police continue to investigate. *


Police are continuing to investigate a break and enter that occurred sometime between the evening of Saturday July 14th, and Monday morning July 16th at the landfill site located on County Road 26 in the Municipality of Brighton. The suspect(s) stole a quantity of tools and equipment from a large metal storage container which was secured by a heavy duty lock.


Police were called for a report of a mischief just north of Grafton ON, near Massey Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. A red sedan that was parked in a parking lot overnight was found covered in fire extinguishing dust. A large industrial size fire extinguisher was found at the scene near the motor vehicle.*


July 18:

A residence on King Street in Cramahe Township was broken into sometime between Saturday July 14 and Monday July 16, 2018. The owner was away during that time but upon returning reported the front door to the house was kicked in and several bottles of alcohol were noticed to be missing from within the home. Investigation is continuing.*


A mischief that occurred in Hamilton Township was reported to police. A resident from Bewdley ON, returned home after being away for several weeks. She reported that minor damage was done to a boat after it was observed to have been tipped off the owners' trailer that was parked on her property.


July 19:

A male from Port Hope ON, reported that he received an email from an unknown party stating that they had access to his email account and to his computer camera. The suspect indicated that a recording was made of the male and threatened to post it on an adult site if he didn't send bitcoin. No funds were exchanged and advice was provided. FRAUD - RECOGNIZE IT....REPORT IT….STOP IT….

A local area restaurant in Brighton ON, called police to report that two female parties dined then left the establishment without any attempt to pay their bill. Investigation continuing.*

Northumberland OPP officers investigated 12 accidental 911 calls, 11 motor vehicle collisions, 66 traffic related complaints and conducted 10 RIDE programs during this time period.
