(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) - On August 7, 2018 at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report that a male was in possession of a firearm behind the Husky Gas Station located on Bayfield St. in the village of Midhurst, Springwater Township.

Police have determined that the male disposed of two firearms into the bush after being approached by an employee and fled the scene on a mountain bike. The mountain bike and the two firearms were recovered shortly after by responding police officers.

Due to the nature of this incident the Huronia West OPP received assistance from the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit, Aviation Services and the Barrie Police Service.

A short time ago, as a result of information received from a member of the public, a male was taken into custody on Finlay Mill Road. The investigation remains ongoing.

Further details will be provided as the investigation permits.
