During the week of August 7, 2018 to August 12, 2018 there were 113 calls for service, including the Whitney Detachment.
There were eleven motor vehicle collisions, no collisions were animal related.
There were three domestic dispute calls for service, and no domestic disputes resulting in criminal code charges.
Break and Enter
On Wednesday August 8, 2018 at approximately 3:53 pm, Killaloe OPP Constable Kyle Fabian responded to a break and enter on Lakeside Lane, South Algonquin Twp. A shed was entered and a grass trimmer, chainsaws and propane burner were reported stolen. This incident remains under investigation.
Theft
On Tuesday August 7, 2018 at approximately 7:20 pm, Killaloe OPP received a theft on Highway 523, South Algonquin Twp. Three twenty litre gas cans were reported stolen over the past week. This incident remains under investigation.
Collision
On Wednesday August 8, 2018 at approximately 10:44 am, Killaloe OPP Constable Kyle Fabian responded to a single vehicle collision on Paugh Lake Road, Madawaska Valley Twp. A pickup truck lost control, and rolled into the ditch. One of the four passengers was extricated from the vehicle by the fire department. The 41yr. old male driver from Madawaska Valley Twp. and a 20 yr. old male passenger from Pembroke were taken to hospital by ambulance, with serious injuries. The remaining two passengers were treated at hospital and released. Charges are pending. The vehicle was towed. This incident remains under investigation.
On Tuesday August 7, 2018 at approximately 8:10 pm, Killaloe OPP Constable Tanya Kutschke responded to a two vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a commercial paint truck on Highway 60, Algonquin Provincial Park. As a result of police investigation the 68 yr. old female driver of the passenger car from Cavan-Monaghan Twp. has been charged with Follow Too Closely, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant was issued a Provincial Offence Act notice. There were no reported injuries and no tow required.
Bear Sightings
During the past week, Killaloe OPP responded to eleven reported bear sightings. Nine sightings were reported in Algonquin Provincial Park, one in North Algona Wilberforce Twp. and one in Madawaska Valley Twp. While these encounters can be alarming, police are reminding the community to contact the Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327 for non-emergency situations. Examples of non-emergent situations may be observing a bear roaming around checking garbage cans, moving through a back yard, or seeing a bear in a tree. Emergency situations where 911 may be used involve an immediate threat to personal safety. Examples of these situations can be observing a bear wandering into a public gathering, killing livestock or lingering around people.
