(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 150 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

August 10

A resident from Minifie Road in Hamilton Township reported to police that one of the vehicles that were parked inside their attached garage had been entered throughout the night. Reported stolen was a wallet containing various forms of identification, credit cards, cash and the Fob needed to start the keyless ignition to their vehicle. The man door into the garage and the vehicle were both left unlocked. As a result of the investigation 44 year old Mark Whitefield from Hamilton Township was arrested and charged with break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence, theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 26, 2018.


A Hamilton Township resident received a voicemail message from an unknown male advising him that he was entitled to a $400 refund from a computer program that he had purchased. The resident recently made a computer program purchase earlier this year and thought the call was pertaining to that. He provided access to his home computer and his online banking information in order to allow access to his account to get the refund. The suspect added several thousands of dollars into the account then told the male it was added in error and to withdraw the money. The suspect then threatened to take the rest of the money in his account if he did not comply with the request. It was unconfirmed if any money was lost from his bank account at the time he reported it to police. A freeze was put on all his accounts as soon as the male became aware this was a fraud. The Investigation is continuing.*


August 11

An unknown male tarred a residents' driveway in Campbellford, Ontario. The resident then allowed the male to enter her home to use the washroom. The female resident is now reporting that cash is missing from her purse and some of her rings are missing from the bedroom. The investigation is continuing.*


A 55 year old male from Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place after he was found walking on the highway near County Road 28 in Port Hope, Ontario. The male was held until sober then released.


A male from Cobourg, Ontario became victim to a fraud which had taken place at a local gas bar in Colborne, Ontario. The victim reported being approached by a man requesting money for gas in exchange for a ring. The victim accepted the ring in exchange for $60.00 worth of gas for his vehicle. Police are continuing to investigate.


August 12

A 2012 silver Mercedes Sprinter van bearing Ontario licence plate BYLL 698 was reported stolen from a driveway on Pinewood School Road in Cramahe Township between 2 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Investigation continuing.*


A break and enter was reported at an address on County Road 29 West of Warkworth, Ontario. The victims' father who recently passed away resided with her. Reported stolen were multiple credit cards, bank cards, and loyalty cards. A key ring that had various keys to access the house, shop, sheds and fobs for numerous vehicles were also stolen. Advice was provided along with various phone numbers for the victim to call to help protect her father's estate. Investigation continuing.*


Police were called to a local area restaurant in Campbellford, Ontario for reports of a disturbance involving two intoxicated males. As a result of the investigation 19 year old Joseph Devereaux of Trent Hills, Ontario was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5000. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018.
Tyler Fitzpatrick age 20 of Trent Hills, Ontario was arrested and charged with four counts of fail to comply with recognizance, fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking, and possession of a schedule II substance - cannabis marihuana under 30 grams. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 14 accidental 9-1-1 calls/alarms, 9 motor vehicle collisions, 45 traffic related complaints and conducted 7 RIDE programs over the weekend.
