Buck & Jo's has been inspected regularly by the Health Department and there have been zero deficiencies. We have gotten comments regarding how exceptionally clean the kitchen is. Buck & Jo’s now serves subs and sandwiches, pop in for more details at 235 Josephine St. Wingham.

The claim from North Huron is that a George Foreman grill is unsafe to cook a hamburger and needs a fire suppression hood. He claimed that if one small drop of grease is cooked out and drips into the tray a spark could hit it and burst into flames. His words. The same is true apparently for panini presses, waffler makers and electric countertop pancake griddle. Most of you may have these at home.

He also claimed a hyper efficient electromagnet (induction top) is unsafe to cook an omelette because the tiny amount of oil used in the pan could be hit by a spark and burst into flames.

A fire suppression hood is NOT required for a panini press, George Foreman grill, electric pancake griddle, induction burner for omelettes, or a household safety deep fryer. North Huron claims otherwise due a possible intentional erroneous interpretation of the term “commercial equipment”.

When asked to specifically point out any commercial equipment in the kitchen, as it would be removed immediately for compliance, he could not point out a single piece of commercial equipment.

A fire suppression hood may be required for some commercial equipment if that equipment produces smoke or grease-laden vapours in a quantity that can’t be controlled by other approved means, this includes gas powered deep fryers & char broilers none of which are at Buck & Jo’s.
