(HURON EAST, ON) - A 24-year-old from California is facing a number of criminal charges and two passengers were sent to hospital with serious injuries following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash that took place over the weekend.
On August 17, 2019 at approximately 9:12 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a campground and raceway located on Walton Road to investigate an ATV side-by-side roll-over collision.
The subsequent investigation revealed the accused had taken the involved ATV without permission and had two passengers on board when the collision occurred. It was also learned the accused took an aggressive turn which resulted in the subsequent loss of control and rollover. The two adult passengers were thrown from the machine which resulted in them both sustaining serious but non-life threatening injuries.
While speaking with the driver the investigating officer noted the driver had been consuming some alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. He was arrested and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. Both of his samples provided to the Intoxilizer Technician were found to be over the legal limit.
Nicholas MCCAMPBELL, 24 years of age from Victorville, California has been charged with Operation While Impaired Causing Bodily Harm (two counts), Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm (two counts) and Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent.
He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 19, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
