(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) - On October 13, 2019 at approximately 8:00 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 west of Wellington Road 32. Further information was received that one of the vehicles involved was attempting to flee the scene.
Investigation revealed that a 2009 pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Highway 7 followed by a 2016 sedan being operated by the accused. The sedan was weaving back and forth within the lane as the pick-up truck slowed and signalled to turn left into a private driveway. The pick-up truck proceeded to turn left when it was struck by the sedan that pulled out to pass. Both vehicles careened off the roadway and came to rest in the grass of the trailer park. The driver of the sedan accelerated into the pick-up truck and drove toward a passenger that had exited the truck, pushing her, until the truck driver was able to stop the car by putting it in neutral.
After speaking with the driver of the sedan, officers determined that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drug and placed them under arrest. The driver was transported to a nearby police station for further testing.
Zina Cherish ALLEN, 22-years-old of no fixed address has been charged with Operation While Impaired by Drug, Dangerous Operation and Failure to Stop at Accident contrary to the Criminal Code and Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused will appear in Guelph Criminal Court on November 12, 2019 to answer to the charges.
A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
