Barn Fire - 1,500 Pigs Perish

(SOUTH BRUCE, ON) - South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with firefighters from Kincardine, Ripley and Tiverton Fire Departments responded late last night (21Oct) to a barn fire that has resulted in significant losses to a pig farm operation.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. South Bruce OPP officers arrived on scene of the barn fire located on Highway 9 east of Kincardine. The fire has resulted in significant losses with initial estimates being around $1.5 million dollars.

An estimated 1500 to 1700 pigs perished in the fire and a barn was completely destroyed.

An investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshal was on scene today investigating.

At this point in time the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
