(SOUTH HURON, ON) - A traffic stop for a burnt out headlight in Exeter turned into a little more than a simple ticket last night in Exeter.
At approximately midnight on January 8, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting patrols in Exeter when he observed a motor vehicle travelling eastbound on Thames Road West with a burnt out headlight. A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had consumed some alcohol.
Accordingly a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted and the driver performed poorly on the test. He was placed under arrest and was subsequently transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. Two samples of his breath were taken and both samples registered over the legal limit.
Additionally, police discovered the driver was currently suspended from driving and he also had open alcohol inside the vehicle.
John CLARK, 28 years of age from Dashwood has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), Drive While Under Suspension, Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor and Drive Motor Vehicle Without Proper Headlights. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Exeter.
