(SOUTH HURON, ON) - An early morning traffic stop this weekend in Exeter has resulted in charges being laid against an Exeter resident.

Just after 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a pickup truck on Carling Street in Exeter to check on the sobriety of the driver.

Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer observed the driver to be displaying signs that he had consumed some alcohol. As such a roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail.

He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. Both of his samples provided to the Intoxilizer Technician were found to be over the legal limit.

John UPSHALL, 23 years of age, from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Obstruct Licence Plate and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. He was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for February 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was impounded and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
