(HOWICK, ON) - Some good old fashion police work over the weekend has resulted in a police arresting a Gorrie resident with Impaired Operation.
At approximately 4:44 a.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2020 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a call about an overturned vehicle that was located in the ditch south of Gorrie along with a possible suspect that was seen walking into town.
Officers responded to the scene where they located and followed a set of footprints into Gorrie. Eventually the tracks in the snow led officers to a residence in Gorrie. A check on the residence initially proved negative however as police were leaving the property a motor vehicle pulled into the laneway. Officers approached the vehicle and were quick to observe the passenger matched the description of the suspect male driver. Further investigation revealed the footprints at the scene matched the tread ware pattern of the male passenger. Upon speaking with the male the investigating officer also noted the suspect had consumed some alcohol and was displaying signs of impairment.
As a result the male was arrested for Impaired Operation and was transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to the intoxilizer technician and both of his tests were analyzed to be above the legal limit.
Additionally, a search incident to arrest of the accused resulted in police locating and seizing a quantity of suspected cocaine.
Brendan CRAPPER, 33 years of age from Gorrie has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Operation While Impaired and Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine. He was also served with a 90-day driver's licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded. He has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for March 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
