40 Year Old Arrested Following Near Collision With Cruiser

(SOUTH HURON, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Exeter resident with Driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Over 80 following a traffic stop conducted by police last Friday.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020 a Huron OPP officer was patrolling northbound on Main Street in Exeter when the officer encountered a car that crossed the center line and into the path of the officer. Fortunately a crash was avoided however upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver.
A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. As a result the driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver provided two samples of his breath to the intoxilizer technician and both test were analyzed to be over the legal limit.
Matthew WOOD, 43 years of age, from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 23, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Exeter. His motor vehicle was impounded and his driver's licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
