Fatal Boat Incident Update - Deceased Identified

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) - On July 26, 2020, at approximately 4:06 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a boating incident at Conestogo Lake, near Wellington County Road 11 in the Township of Mapleton. It was reported that a 13-year-old female sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by a boat.

Rescuers pulled the unconscious victim from the water. Tania YONAN of Kitchener was pronounced dead at scene.

The cause of the incident is currently being investigated by OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) and OPP Marine Unit officers. The lake and roadways remain open.
