(SOUTH HURON, ON) - Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday August 2, 2020, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a residence located on Main Street South in Exeter to assist a male found with vital signs absent.

First responders immediately provided first aid at the scene and quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital.

The victim, a 41-year-old male later died in hospital.

A post-mortem examination was completed earlier this week. Investigators are still awaiting the results of toxicology tests to help determine the cause of death however it is being treated as a suspected drug overdose death.

If you suspect someone is overdosing or is in need of medical attention, immediately call 9-1-1 and stay with the victim. It is extremely important to know what someone has ingested, not only for the safety of everyone responding, but to assist in determining the potential cause of death.

Please remember the OPP supports Canada's Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act that provides protection from charges for individuals at the scene of a drug overdose for simple drug possession.
