(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On October 16, 2020 at approximately 9:00 p.m. a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109 near Sideroad 15 when they observed a black sedan travelling eastbound at a speed that appeared to be well below the speed limit.
Police conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.
Officers seized an open container of alcohol that was within the driver's reach and the vehicle was found to be uninsured.
As a result of the investigation, Cory HATCH, 33-years-old of Arthur, has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code, No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on November 10, 2020 to answer to the charges.
