(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with impaired operation related offences as the result of a traffic complaint.

On April 13, 2024, just before 2:30 p.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP responded to a fail to remain motor vehicle collision in the area of Broadway and Sherbourne Street in the Town of Orangeville. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Jason OVERLAND, a 50-year-old male, from The Town of Mono has been charged with:

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Dangerous operation

• Failure to stop after accident

On April 16, 2024, just after 6:00 p.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP responded to a possible impaired driver in the area of Marie Street in the Town of Shelburne. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation.

Denise COTE, a 53-year-old female, from the Town of Shelburne has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

• Drive – hand held communication device

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

Dufferin OPP continues to conduct traffic enforcement daily as drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs and who drive at excessive speeds continue to pose a threat to Ontario roads. We are committed to the safety of our community.
