Hit & Run Two Arrested

(Orillia, ON) The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have two individuals as part of an impaired driving and stolen property investigation.
On April 21, 2024, at about 2:51 p.m., Orillia OPP responded to a minor motor vehicle collision where one of the involved vehicles failed to remain at the scene. Officers patrolled for the vehicle in question and spotted it travelling southbound on Highway 11 near Line 15 in Oro-Medonte Township. The vehicle was stopped and responding officers commenced their investigation. The driver of the vehicle was suspected to be impaired by drug, underwent a drug recognition evaluation and failed. As the investigation continued it was determined that the driver and passenger were in possession of stolen property. Recovered were two landscaping tampers.
As a result, Brock Buckingham, 39-years-old, from Innisfil has been charged with:
Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs.
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 x2
Possession of a schedule 1 substance opioid (other than heroin)
Failure to stop after accident
The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing. As a result of the impaired related charges his drivers licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.
John Thorn, 32-years-old, from Innisfil has been charged with:
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 x2
Possession of a schedule 1 substance opioid (other than heroin)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in May 2024.
