16 Year Old Caught Going 140 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On November 20, 2020 at approximately 10:50 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Highway 6 near Campbell Road in the Township of Centre Wellington.
The officer observed a black sedan travelling southbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 140 km/h.
As a result, a 16-year-old driver from Hanover has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice - Provincial Offences Court on May 5, 2021.
Their vehicle and driver's licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
