2 More Drivers Arrested

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) � The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two drivers in unrelated incidents over the weekend.

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., police were on patrol on Bridge Street in Hastings when an officer received an from the cruiser Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) regarding a passenger vehicle travelling in the same direction.



Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was confirmed to be suspended. Further investigation revealed that the driver failed to comply with a release order in communicating with a passenger.

As a result, Jason PETERS, 52-years-old, from the Municipality of Trent Hills, was arrested and charged with:



� Failure to comply with release order � other than to attend court

� Failure to comply with undertaking

� Driving while under suspension.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

On August 10, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., OPP along with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Township of Hamilton Fire Department responded to a single vehicle collision on County Road 45 in Hamilton Township. Police arrived on the scene where a passenger vehicle was in the ditch and both occupants were being treated by EMS for minor injuries. The driver was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

Elizabeth HARVEY, 21-years-old, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:

� Operation while impaired � alcohol and drugs

� Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, to answer to their charges. Their driver�s licence was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Northumberland OPP remind motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol and drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, rideshare, public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
