(TAY TOWNSHIP, ON) A driver faces impaired charges after colliding with an marked OPP cruiser which resulted in significant damage to both vehicles but thankfully no injuries.

On October 27, 2024, just after midnight, an OPP SUV cruiser with emergency lights activated was pulled over on the south side of Highway 12 in the Township of Tay, in the area of Wye Valley Road. An eastbound minivan struck the rear driver-side corner of the police cruiser causing the minivan to roll onto its side and sending the cruiser into the ditch (see attached photos). The officer in the cruiser was not injured and exited to vehicle, along with other passing motorists, to assist the driver and passenger in the minivan. The driver and passenger were removed safely and were attended to by Simcoe County Paramedics, no injuries were reported.

Upon speaking with the driver, police noticed the signs of alcohol impairment and placed the individual under arrest to be transported to detachment to provide breath samples.



As a result of this investigation, Karl FRANK-MCCONKEY, 31 years of Tay Township, was charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

Operation while Impaired
Operation with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80mg
The accused was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 7, 2024. When charged with impaired driving, the driver�s license of the accused is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating is impounded for 7 days.
