Northumberland OPP Update

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) � The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested several persons as a result of unrelated traffic incidents over the weekend.
On October 25, 2024, at around 5:20 p.m., while on Veronica Street in Cobourg, officers observed a motorist who was known to be prohibited from driving and wanted on a warrant. The driver was stopped by police and the individual was placed under arrest.
As a result, William BUDD, 41-years-old, from the Township of Alnwick-Haldimand, has been charged with:
� Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
The individual was held for bail and their vehicle was impounded for 45-days.
On October 26, 2024, shortly before 5:30 p.m., OPP and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on private property in the area of Lakehurst Street in the Municipality of Brighton.
Officers arrived at the location where the driver had struck a family member who was outside of the passenger vehicle. The person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Upon speaking to the driver, police entered into an impaired operation investigation where an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
An 81-year-old, from Brighton, has been charged with:
� Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
� Operation causing bodily harm.
The driver shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim. In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
On October 26, 2024, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope. A pick-up truck was observed travelling at a speed of 146 Km/h in a posted 110 Km/h limit. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver provided the information of another person. Through investigation, the driver was found to be suspended from driving. Following a search of the vehicle, 15 grams of suspected cocaine was seized with an approximate street value of $1,350. The pick-up truck was also found to have a defect.
Dalton CHISHOLM, 30-years-old, from Uxbridge has been charged with:
� Obstruct peace officer
� Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
� Possession of a Schedule I substance � Cocaine
� Driving while under suspension � two counts
� Operate unsafe vehicle
� Speeding 1- 49 Km/h over posted limit.
In addition to a future court date, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
On October 27, 2024, at around 4:35 a.m., OPP received a traffic complaint in relation to a passenger vehicle which was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Port Hope. Officers located a vehicle matching the description provided and observed it to be driven in an erratic manner an unable to maintain it�s lane before coming to a stop in the middle of the highway. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and was transported to a local detachment for further tests from a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).
Trevonn MORLESE, 31-years-old, from Toronto, has been charged with:
� Dangerous operation
� Operation while impaired � alcohol and drugs.
In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
On October 28, 2024, at approximately 3:45 a.m., officers were assisting with lane closures at the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Hamilton. Police observed a vehicle enter one of the two closed lanes where there were numerous Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and tow truck vehicles, all with flashing lights on. The motorist then performed an overtake of another vehicle before returning to the single open lane.
OPP signaled the vehicle to stop and as it was slowing down, the driver and passenger switched seats.
Through investigation, the initial driver was found to be committing bail violations.
As a result, Louis VIOLA, 24-years-old, from Laval, Quebec, was arrested and charged with:
� Obstruct peace officer
� Fail to comply with probation order � two counts
� Fail to slow down and proceed with caution for emergency vehicle or tow truck.
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
The OPP is committed to reducing and preventing injuries on roads, highways, waterways, and trails, while enhancing safety for motorists and all other road users through public education and enforcement.
