(BRANT, ON) � On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 1:02 a.m., an officer with the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop in Paris after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation at the intersection of Mechanic Street and Grand River Street North.

Upon interacting with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. A roadside screening test was conducted, and the driver registered a failure. The driver was arrested and transported for further testing, which confirmed blood alcohol concentrations over the legal limit.

As a result, Matthew Carter, 32, of Brant County, has been charged with:

Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused�s vehicle was impounded for seven days, and his driver�s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Driver�s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 30, 2025.

The OPP reminds all motorists that impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, is dangerous and entirely preventable. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1 immediately.
