LONDON, ON (January 20, 2025) The London Police Service is announcing the launch of Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs) this month.

Today, the LPS will begin a three-phased rollout of BWCs to members of the Uniformed Division, Canine Unit and Emergency Response Unit of the LPS.

Phase one (1) of the rollout will begin on, January 20, 2025, and subsequent phased deployments will occur over the coming year.

The introduction of the BWCs within LPS is aimed to:

Improve public trust through transparency and accountability.
Collect evidence crucial to investigations, court proceedings and oversight proceedings.
Ensure fair and timely resolution to complaints.
Improve the effectiveness of training, development and performance of police personnel.
The introduction of Body-Worn Cameras marks a significant milestone in the modernization of the London Police Service. This technology not only promotes greater accountability for our officers but also reinforces our commitment to transparency and trust with the community we serve, said Chief Thai Truong, London Police Service. As we roll out this initiative, we are taking another important step toward fostering a safer city, strengthening community trust, and a more inclusive and secure London for everyone.

Axon is proud to partner with the London Police Service in enhancing public safety through the deployment of body-worn cameras, says Axon Canadas Director of Sales, Stefan Schurman. Body-worn cameras are part of an integral ecosystem, including in-car cameras with Fleet 3, and Axon Evidence to equip officers with advanced, reliable technology that supports effective de-escalation, strengthens officer training, and provides secure storage and management of digital evidence, contributing to safer and more effective outcomes for both officers and the community.
