(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) � The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a number of incidents recently.
On March 16, 2025, at approximately 5:15 a.m., OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision at 2nd Line Road in Roseneath. Officers arrived on the scene where a passenger vehicle was in the ditch having collided with a hydro pole.
Following speaking with the uninjured driver, an officer entered into an impaired operation investigation which resulted in the accused being taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests. Further avenues of investigation revealed that the individual had taken the vehicle without consent.
As a result, Madisen KILTZ (age 27) from the Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:
� Operation while impaired � alcohol and drugs
� Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
� Take motor vehicle without consent.
In addition to a future court date, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
On March 17, 2025, shortly before 2:00 a.m., police and the Municipality of Brighton Fire Department responded to a fire at a residence on Chapel Street in Brighton. Officers arrived at the location where the fire department were already present. All five occupants vacated from the property without injury. Two persons who were nearby at the time were transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital as a precaution.
The Office of the Fire Marshall was contacted, and OPP Forensic Identification Services (IDENT) attended the location to assist with the investigation.
A vehicle at the location was destroyed and major damage throughout the structure was sustained as a result of the incident.
The scene was held until approximately 1:00 p.m. and the circumstances surrounding the fire are still under investigation.
On March 18, 2025, shortly before 1:00 a.m., police received a report regarding a single vehicle collision on County Road 10 in the Municipality of Port Hope. Members of the fire department also proceeded to the location.
Officers arrived at the scene where a passenger vehicle had collided with a hydro pole causing extensive damage. The vehicle was unoccupied, and OPP began an investigation into the incident.
Police attended a nearby residence where they spoke to the driver who had sustained minor injuries but did not require EMS. Upon speaking with the individual, OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made by an officer and with the result of �FAIL�, the accused was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
As a result, Daniel SMITH (age 33) from Campbellcroft, has been charged with:
� Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The road was closed in the area until around 1:00 p.m. for repairs to the hydro pole.
In addition to a future court date, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
On March 18, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., members of the Northumberland-Peterborough Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at an address on Maple Street in Campbellford.
A small quantity of Cocaine was seized along with Canadian currency and gift cards believed to be the proceeds of crime.
As a result, John SELBY (age 47), from The Municipality of Trent Hills, has been charged with:
� Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking � Cocaine
� Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
