Fire Hydrant Vs Vehicle Collision � One Arrested

(LAURENTIAN HILLS, ON) � A single-vehicle collision in the municipality of Laurentian Hills has resulted in charges being laid against the driver.

On May 9, 2025, at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Main Street in Chalk River. Investigation found the vehicle left the roadway, entered the ditch and struck a fire hydrant. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by Renfrew County Paramedics. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and further testing was conducted.



As a result of this incident 29-year-old Dakota FRECH-ASSIGINACK is charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:

Operation while impaired � alcohol
Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
Careless driving
Possess more than one licence
The accused had their driver�s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 10, 2025.
