(WEST PERTH, ON) � One person has been charged with multiple offences after failing to stop for police while driving impaired in the Municipality of West Perth.
On January 5, 2026 shortly after 5:00 p.m. the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on an unrelated traffic stop when they observed a passing motor vehicle strike a snowbank on Perth Line 34 west of the Town of Mitchell. The vehicle continued travelling in a manner that was dangerous to other drivers before it left the roadway colliding with a snowbank.
The driver, 20-year-old Cory Richardson of South Huron was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Operation While Impaired
Operation While Impaired � Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Dangerous Operation
Flight from Peace Officer
Resist Peace Officer
Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on January 26, 2026. The accused is also facing a 90-day drivers licence suspension, 7-day motor vehicle impoundment as well as tow and impound fees.
