(IROQUOIS FALLS, ON) � One person has been arrested and charged following an investigation involving a firearm in Iroquois Falls.
On Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Iroquois Falls and South Porcupine Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a firearm being discharged at a residence on Campion Street. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the discharged firearm.
The suspect subsequently left the scene and attended a residence on Big Nellie Lake Road. Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Forensic Identification Services, Aviation Unit and the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service attended the location. A peaceful surrender was negotiated with suspect who was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old individual from Iroquois Falls has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Attempt to commit murder using a firearm, section 239(1)(a.1)
Discharge firearm with intent, section 244(1)
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88
Pointing a firearm, section 87
Unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 91(1)
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 92(1)
Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, section 94
Assault, section 266
Assault with a weapon, section 267(a) � two counts
Criminal harassment, section 264(1)
Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a)
Mischief under $5,000, section 430(4) � two counts
Break and enter a dwelling house to commit an indictable offence, section 348(1)(b)
Possession of break-in instruments, section 351(1)
The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Iroquois Falls.
The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
The South Porcupine Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
