(LAKESHORE, ON) � One person faces charges after violating the fail to move over law in Lakeshore.

On January 15, 2026, at approximately 2:46 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was assisting a tow truck at a collision on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Lakeshore.

A vehicle passed by the cruiser who had emergency lights activated and the tow truck without moving into another lane for the emergency vehicle and tow truck.

An investigation into the violation followed, and Robert ROBERTS, 42-years-old of Windsor was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

Operation while impaired � blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Dangerous operation
Fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle or tow truck � if safe to do
A 90-day Administrative Driver�s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice � Windsor on February 27, 2026, to answer to the charges.

The OPP urges all drivers to respect Ontario�s Move Over Law. When approaching an emergency vehicle stopped with its lights flashing, motorists must slow down and, if safe, move into another lane. This law is designed to protect police, paramedics, tow truck operators, and other roadside workers.

Failure to comply can result in fines, demerit points, and most critically, serious injury or death.

Let�s keep our roads safe. Slow down. Move over. It�s the law.
