Hamilton Police continue to take decisive action against dangerous driving, as officers from the Traffic Safety Unit targeted excessive speed and aggressive driving.
During the enforcement initiative, multiple drivers were stopped travelling at extreme speeds on city roadways, putting themselves and others at serious risk. Officers issued immediate roadside sanctions, including licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments, removing these drivers from the road before more serious consequences could occur.
Among those stopped:
A 36-year-old Hamilton man was clocked at 172 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Wilson Street West in Ancaster, reportedly racing another vehicle. Officers safely intervened and brought the situation under control.
A 17-year-old driver was stopped on Centennial Parkway travelling 147 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. When questioned, he told officers he was going to the mall.
A 27-year-old motorcyclist was stopped on Rymal Road East travelling 116 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. This stop came during a week when Hamilton experienced two fatal motorcycle collisions, highlighting the very real consequences of high-risk driving.
A 23-year-old Hamilton man was stopped on the Red Hill Valley Parkway travelling 138 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
Each driver received an immediate 30-day license suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment. Upon conviction, they could face substantial fines, demerit points, and additional driving prohibitions.
These speeds are not just numbers, they represent real danger, said Chief Frank Bergen . Every time someone chooses to drive this way, they are putting lives at risk.
Hamilton Police are reminding all drivers that road safety is a shared responsibility. Slowing down and making responsible choices can prevent serious injuries and save lives.
Targeted enforcement will continue across the city, with a focus on reducing high-risk driving behaviours and keeping Hamiltons roads safe for everyone.
