Two stunt drivers taken off road
Two motorists were taken off the road in Guelph this weekend after being charged with stunt driving.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Friday a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling on Speedvale Avenue East when he clocked a pickup travelling 98 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

The truck was pulled over and the driver, a 52-year-old Guelph man, was charged with stunt driving, speeding and refusing to provide identification.

At 3:40 a.m. Sunday an officer was patrolling in the area of Speedvale Avenue West and Silvercreek Parkway North when he observed a vehicle turning a corner very quickly, causing the tires to screech. The officer followed the vehicle, which made a quick left turn onto Edinburgh Road North. The driver lost control of the car, which left the road and collided with a tree and sign.

A 24-year-old Kitchener man is charged with careless driving, stunt driving and failing to stop for a red light. Both drivers had their licences suspended for 30 days and their vehicles impounded for 14 days. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. (Occurrence numbers GU26026502, GU26026932)
